Responsible swimming trunks
The most responsible choice for swimwear is to swim naked. Achieving a 100% responsible product is impossible, but we're doing our best. 'Sometimes it's not enough to do your best; you have to succeed as well.' - said Kari Kinnunen. Our swimsuits are handmade in Finland, using recycled materials that are printed in a Finnish press. We understand where the environmental impacts of swimwear lie, and we trust in Finnish expertise.
How do we manufacture products in Finland in 2024?
- The Saimaa Sealskin team brainstorm new swimwear designs.
- Reetta sparks creative chaos and sketches out the patterns.
- Ari fires up the presses at Aito in full swing.
- Mia gets her hands on the fabrics in Espoo.
- Aaro, with excitement bubbling, ships out the swimsuits from his Jyväskylä logistics center (read: his garage) to eagerly awaiting customers.
Saimaa Sealskin sticks to responsible consumption: crafting durable swimsuits that can handle the Nordic conditions and behinds. Nothing but a trail of waves left in the water.
Fabric:
Our fabric makes the longest journey. In Italy, it is transported by horse-drawn carriage (figuratively, by road). It's made of 78% recycled polyester and 22% elastane, with both fibers certified by Öeko-Tex. This is the absolute minimum standard, especially when covering up those most precious assets with swimwear.

Printing:
The printing happens in Aitoo at Printscorpio’s factory, proudly bearing the Key Flag symbol of the Association for Finnish Work. Every fourth product is produced entirely with solar energy.
In fabric printing, we steer clear of PVC and/or any devilish plasticizers found in plastisol inks, opting solely for water-based inks. Printscorpion also invests in wastewater treatment and reducing environmental impact caused by printing. We want to swim in Finland's clean waters without leaving a trace.

Tags and labels:
Size and care labels, as well as product tags, are sourced from the Finnish company Tuotenauha. Care labels are made of polyester, and product tags are 100% recycled paper.
Our shipping packaging is made from 80% recycled plastic.
And there you have it, our production chain laid bare, so to speak.
