Why do responsible swimming trunks cost €79?

Saimaa Sealskin swimming trunks cost 79 €. Here's the honest truth about why ecological clothing costs more.

Making handmade swimming trunks in Finland from recycled Italian fabric, with safe dyes and care labels printed in Finland, costs real money. Responsible production is not cheap: VAT, craftsmanship, materials, packaging, and e-commerce fees quickly add up. And for a long time, we kept the price lower than it should have been, which practically meant we were sponsoring your good taste. Sometimes worth it. Not very sensible business practice.

So we raised prices. Not to get rich, but to keep the lights on and so we can continue making swimming trunks that we are truly proud of. You buy directly from the makers, without intermediaries, without reseller games. Just a small Finnish brand doing its best to stay afloat and make something that is genuinely worth wearing.

Fast fashion vs. slow fashion: what accounts for the price difference?

Cheap swimming trunks from a store shelf might cost €15, but that price tag is missing a lot. In fast fashion, labor is underpaid, materials are often virgin polyester, and the production chain is opaque. When you pay €79 for Saimaa Sealskin swimwear, you are paying for fair wages for a Finnish seamstress, recycled Oeko-Tex certified fabric, prints made with safe dyes, and the fact that each swimsuit is made to last for years.
