Sustainable Swim Trunks
The most sustainable choice in swimwear is to swim naked. A 100% sustainable product is impossible to produce, but we do our best. “It's not always enough to do your best, sometimes you also need to succeed” – Kari Kinnunen. Our swim briefs are handmade in Finland and the fabric is recycled material printed at a Finnish printing facility. We know exactly where the environmental impact of our swim briefs falls and we trust Finnish expertise.
How is it possible to manufacture products in Finland in 2023?
- The Saimaa Sealskin team creates new swim briefs
- Reetta kicks off the creative chaos and draws the patterns
- Ari starts the printing machines at Aitoola
- Mia gets the fabrics in Espoo
- Aaro ships the swim briefs from the Jyväskylä logistics centre (a.k.a. his garage) to eagerly waiting customers
Saimaa Sealskin is committed to responsible consumption: we make swim briefs that are built to withstand Nordic conditions — and everything else. The only thing left in the water is the wake.
Fabric: The fabric comes from the farthest away — from Italy, by land. 78% recycled polyester and 22% elastane, both fibres hold the Oeko-Tex certification. This is the absolute minimum standard, especially when the swim briefs cover the most precious. Read more about the fabric.
Printing: Printing takes place at the Printscorpion factory in Aitoola, which holds the Key Flag symbol from the Association for Finnish Work. Every fourth product is manufactured entirely with solar energy. No PVC or plasticiser-containing plastisol inks are used in the printing — only water-based printing inks. Printscorpion also invests in wastewater treatment and reducing the environmental footprint of printing. We want to swim in Finland's clean waters without leaving a trace. Read more about printing.
Labels and tags: Size and care labels, as well as product tags, are sourced from Finnish company Tuotenauha. Care labels are polyester and product tags are 100% recycled paper. The shipping packaging is 80% recycled plastic.
That's it. The production chain — laid bare.
